Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. — 1 Peter 5:7

Our human nature is to hold on to things that engage our emotions. Let someone upset us, and we don’t forget it. Let someone mistreat you, chances are you won’t forget it. It can even be anxiety, worry, or burdens in life that we just simply want to hold on to. We struggle to let go.

And if we are honest, sometimes holding on feels easier than releasing.

There is something in us that believes if we carry it long enough, we will eventually figure it out. If we rehearse the offense enough times, we will find peace with it. If we stay close to the worry, we will somehow stay ahead of it. But that is not how God designed us to live.

Peter’s instruction is simple, but the weight behind it is significant. Cast your care. Not set it down gently. Not revisit it occasionally. Cast it, the way a fisherman throws a net, with intention and release.

The word care here carries the idea of anxiety, distraction, and the weight of things that divide our attention. These are the very things we were not built to carry alone. And yet we do. We pick them up, carry them through our days, bring them into our sleep, and wonder why we feel so worn.

What God offers in this verse is not just relief. It is a relationship. He cares for you. The reason we can cast our burdens is not simply because God is capable of holding them. It is because He is personally invested in us. He is not a distant God waiting for us to manage our own weight. He is a God who genuinely cares about what concerns you.

The harder question is not whether God can handle what you are carrying. The harder question is whether you are willing to let it go.

Holding on to worry does not protect us. Holding on to offense does not heal us. Holding on to burdens does not strengthen us. It only keeps our hands too full to receive what God has for us next.

What are you holding today that was never meant to stay in your hands? God is not asking you to pretend it does not exist. He is asking you to trust Him with it. Cast it. All of it. He cares for you far more than you may realize.
