When Faithfulness Feels Exhausting

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. — Galatians 6:9

It wasn’t so long ago that I was talking with someone as we entered an office building at the same time. As we spoke, I asked how their morning was going. They responded, “my morning has been fine, but I am so tired.” In the middle of their good week, they found themselves exhausted.

As we spoke, I learned that there were a lot of things that contributed to their exhaustion. The fatigue had become a distraction to this person and they found themselves struggling. Struggling to stay awake, but struggling to make it through the day.

That kind of weariness is familiar to many of us. It’s not always caused by crisis or failure. Sometimes it comes from faithfulness. From continuing to do what is right, what is good, what is necessary, even when the strength feels thin.

Scripture acknowledges this reality. Paul doesn’t warn us against wrongdoing here. He warns us against growing weary in well doing. The danger isn’t that we stop believing, but that we grow tired of continuing. Tired of praying. Tired of trusting. Tired of remaining faithful when the results aren’t immediately visible.

If you find yourself tired today, that does not mean you are failing. It may simply mean you have been faithful longer than you realize. God sees what feels unseen. He honors obedience that feels ordinary. And He promises that perseverance is never wasted.

Where are you feeling weary right now — not because of sin or disobedience, but because you’ve been faithfully showing up?
