I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. — Romans 12:1

One of my grandfathers served in World War 2. He wouldn’t talk about it very much, but as I learned more about his background, I learned about his sacrifice to go to Europe and serve his nation during this critical time. He was in the Army, which has caused me to do a lot of research about the Army to learn more.

As I researched Army training, I learned that they focus on several core concepts during the first few weeks of basic training. One of these is selfless service. During training, soldiers learn that the larger cause is more important than themselves. They learn that personal recognition takes a backseat to the mission, the nation, and their teams. They are pressed to go further and do more, all to help the cause.

There are many times the comparison of Christianity is made to being a soldier. We have a cause and a purpose. The cause of Christ is our mission. Yet, there are far too many Christians missing on the battlefield. They became distracted.

The world teaches us that we should strive for recognition. There are not many times you hear the idea of working toward a common purpose or goal anymore. Instead, the mindset of many is achieving personal greatness, wealth, and recognition. But God is looking for Christians who are committed to selfless service.

Our full and complete dedication should be to God and to the cause of Christ. Our desire should be to present ourselves where God can use us, fulfilling our reasonable service. While we each live our own individual lives, life is about so much more than ourselves. Are you committed to selfless service to God? What can you do today for the cause of Christ?
