And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. — Mark 2:4

Recently, I was driving home from a long day away from the family. As I got closer to our house, I had to get on the major highway that connects our town to the larger city. Soon, I realized that there was a problem as I started to see the red lights ahead of me.

Traffic slowed to a standstill. There was really nowhere to go. There were no exits and no lanes to change to. All I could do was continue through the traffic until I could make my way through. After several minutes, I realized the problem. Something was in the road making it impossible to drive in the lane.

All the traffic ahead of me was slowing down, and each lane had to go into the emergency lane to avoid the obstacle in the road. As soon as we got around, traffic started flowing once again. The obstacle had got in the way and become a distraction.

There are often a lot of obstacles in life. Many of these obstacles get in our way, and we have to go out of our way to overcome them.  We should do all that we can to never let the obstacles in life stand in our way of getting to God!

Chances are you won’t have to remove a physical roof, but you might have to battle the obstacle of people as they did here. It could be the obstacle of pride, comfort, or many other things. No matter what the obstacle may be, don’t let it stand in your way of getting to God.
