With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men. — Ephesians 6:7

Many years ago, I remember my dad having a garden at our home. It wasn’t a large garden but it was enough for us to grow some vegetables that we would eat throughout the summer. I remember watching him and learning as he tilled up the ground and placed the seed into the soil. Some time later, after much prayer, watering, and sunshine, we would start to see the seed sprout and the plants begin to grow.

It was many weeks after we planted before we saw the first vegetables start growing. You have some that might start as a small flower, while others would grow in the ground. You would never know how many vegetables you were going to get out of any plant until you started to see the results of the growth.

If the sunshine and water were balanced well, the plants would grow strong. Many of them would deliver more vegetables than initially thought. At other times, the heat would get to them, rendering many of the plants void. The point is that there was work that was done in the beginning, and the results came later.

In our Christian lives, the initial work of faith was performed when we accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. That does not instantly yield fruit from our lives, however. The fruits come as we learn, grow in the spirit, read and learn God’s word, and follow God’s will.

As you examine your life, do you see the results of your faith? If you have been building your faith through studying God’s word, in prayer, and following God’s will, your faith should be producing fruits that others can see. If you don’t see the results of faith, maybe it’s time to reexamine the things you are taking into your life.
