For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. — Romans 5:19

One time, I remember that I was working on a project around my house when I needed to use a small knife. Growing up in the south, it wasn’t uncommon to have a pocket knife or two nearby. As I started using the knife, I realized that it wasn’t going to go quite as easily as I had hoped.

I had to move the knife a different way. While I normally cut away from me to prevent any risk of cutting myself, there was no way I could get the leverage I needed. So I did what you shouldn’t do, I started cutting towards myself. Not long after I did, the knife slipped and before I could stop it, it had stuck the tip of the knife into my forearm.

While the initial puncture hurt and it did bleed for a bit, those eventually went away. What didn’t go away was the scar. I still have the mark on my forearm to this day from nearly 20 years ago when that knife pierced my arm.

Things that we do in life can leave an impact. As this verse says, by one man’s disobedience, many were made sinners. Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, taking of the fruit they were told not to. Because of that sin, we all deal with the effects. It left an impact.

Every day, our lives are leaving a mark on this world. We are either influencing others to Christ or away from Him. We are influencing them with a Christian influence, or the influence of our own sin and disobedience. If you examine your heart, what kind of mark are you leaving?
