And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. — Mark 12:42

Not long ago, I was doing some work around my house that required the use of a screwdriver. I picked up my favorite one. It has multiple bits that allow me to use just one screwdriver for any need and it has a ratchet function that will speed up the use.

As I was working with the screwdriver, it stopped working. I could turn the handle, but nothing would happen. No matter how I held the handle, the screwdriver would spin without any torque. I was worried it was broken completely, but I wasn’t sure why. After some investigation, I learned that a pin held it together and had fallen out.

By the grace of God, I was able to locate the pin and put it back into place. It allowed me to finish my job and continue on the course of my day. I learned a valuable lesson about the importance of that small pin. But even more, it’s a reminder about the value of the small things.

There are many times we find ourselves overlooking things in life we can do for God. We don’t see them as valuable. Perhaps we think it is simply a distraction or disruption. Maybe we think it is too little for God. But God sees little things as big things. Not because they are flashy or will grab someone’s attention. Instead, God is looking at the heart and the purpose behind the action.

There is never a moment that God is not interested in you or what you do in service to Him. You may never be a well-known pastor or leader, but you are well-known to God. Instead of worrying about whether your service to God matters, do it anyway! It may seem small to you, but God sees little things as big things!
