A sower went out to sow his seed… – Luke 8:5

I always love the end of winter. I have never been a fan of cold weather. The warm days, longer days, and the joy of things starting to grow again and is always encouraging. It’s the signal of the end of a dark period, and the start of something new. One of the things that I always love is the time when farmers start to plant their crops and fresh vegetables start to grow.

There’s something special about watching someone prepare the ground, plant seed, and seeing those plants coming up each year. It takes a lot of work, a lot of focus, but it is certainly worth it. It provides substance to many around the community and a livelihood for the farmers. But not every seed that is planted comes up.

Sometimes, the ground isn’t prepared quite right. Maybe there are rocks. Perhaps there are not enough nutrients. At times, an animal will eat the seed or young plants. Whatever the case may be, there are often times the seeds planted will not result in full-grown plants. In turn, those fruits and vegetables may never be realized.

There are many ways to look at this parable. Some will look at it from the perspective of sharing God’s word. But today, we should take an internal look. When we are reading and studying God’s word, how is our heart prepared to receive it? Are our hearts properly prepared? Or does the word of God find our hearts a place where it cannot truly grow into fruit?

Simply reading the words of the Bible will not make us a strong Christian. We must take those words, meditate on them, study them, and put them in our hearts. There, God’s word can help us grow as a Christian, delivering fruits that this world will see. Today, ask God to help prepare your heart. Not just to read His word, but to plant it in your heart so that it can help you and grow to it’s full potential!

Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
