I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. — Psalm 4:8

Over the years I worked as a paramedic, there were many times that I remember working with people facing anxiety. There were many times we would respond to a home where someone was in the middle of an anxiety attack. There were often many causes. Sickness, recent traumatic events, or even just the cares of life were often shared as the reasons.

At times, the people were struggling to breathe. They often had pain and looked uncomfortable. But they often described themselves as restless. The truth is that many people worry and have anxiety without it fully manifesting as a full-on anxiety attack. Rather than having all the symptoms, they find their minds wandering and racing and end up restless. Usually, it happens when a person is trying to relax.

In those moments, our minds are trying to calm down. Perhaps our body is tired. Whether it be for sleep, or just a few moments of rest, our body is looking for peace. But in the middle of the anxiety, it renders our body unable to relax. We end up restless.

But based on scripture, it seems we have an opportunity to end the restlessness. It isn’t that the cares of life stop, but it is that we have one who is with us who can overcome anything we face. David said it is only the Lord that can do this! Only He is able!

What has you worried and restless? End the restlessness in your life and give those things to God. Only God can give you peace that can end the restlessness completely. But it takes putting our faith in Him and letting Him have control of it all!
