Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. — 1 Corinthians 10:14

Many people who know me will tell you that I am pretty particular about my car. It started back when I was a teenager. I used to love cleaning my vehicle and would spend hours doing so. I wanted it to look the absolute best that it could when I went out with friends. It continued as I got older, in that I would spend as much time cleaning my car and tinkering with my car as I did with many other things.

There is certainly nothing wrong with a clean car. To this day, I still value having a clean car. If you get into my vehicle, you’ll notice that I try to keep it clean. But I don’t go to the extent that I once did because it was taking a priority in my life that shouldn’t have been.

If we are all honest, we all have things like this that we are guilty of. For some, it’s their vehicle or motorcycle. For others, it may be their house or the desire for money. Maybe it’s a certain collectible or trinkets that you love. It could be a sport or some other type of activity.

There are many things in life that have the opportunity to take priority in our lives. While these may not be an idol as we think of from the Bible, they are idols nonetheless. After Paul shares various examples of sin from the Bible, he ends with the simple words, “flee from idolatry.”

He warns to escape from the service and worship of idols. It can be so easy for something to take the place of God in our lives. It’s all about where we are placing our priorities. Do we prioritize things in our lives over God?

Satan would love to give you dozens of things to remove God from being the priority of your life. As you reflect today, is there anything in your life that may be taking God’s place as the priority of your life? God wants to be first in your life and will not accept being second to anything!

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
