For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light. — Ephesians 5:8

It was such a great morning. I had done well in being quiet to keep from waking my wife and son as I got ready for work. I started out of the bedroom and down to the kitchen to make my coffee and that’s when it happened. My son had been so kind to leave a toy on the floor and I stepped on it.

The peaceful moments of that morning quickly faded. I caught myself gasping due to the pain of the toy under my foot. I quickly jumped to the other foot and dropped the things I was carrying. So much for being quiet. While I had done so well up to this point, I had made a terrible mistake.

That morning, I trusted my ability to navigate through the house without any assistance. I knew the path between the couch and the table. The vague shapes of the furniture I could see, but I couldn’t see that small toy. My mistake was that I failed to use the light which could have lit my path.

There are many times in life where we believe we know the way well. Perhaps we think we know what should happen, how it should happen, and believe we can get there on our own. We can even at times see the outlines of things that may get in our way, but we overlook little things.

As Christians, we don’t have to walk in the darkness of this world. We are told to walk in the light! But many times we simply don’t want to turn the light on. We think we know what’s best. God doesn’t expect us to do things on our own in darkness. He wants us to turn the light on so He can guide our path.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
