Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. — Psalm 37:4

There are a lot of people who would like to take this verse and turn it into something it is not. They want to use this as a way to claim health, fame, and fortune in life. Many personalities online and on television would have you to believe that simply living for God is a way to get whatever you want in life. Essentially, live for God and you can get whatever you desire.

But this verse is not saying that God will give you anything you want. It isn’t a blank check from God for a new house, car, money, or anything else in this world. In fact, if you really think about it, we desire those things because we believe they will bring us happiness.

By our very nature, we want to be happy in life. We generally desire to avoid conflict and get along with others. We want to be able to have things we enjoy and to be healthy, all things that lead us to be happy.

Happiness is not found in new houses, cars, money, or other possessions of this world. Think about sports stars and movie stars. They constantly desire more and seemingly are never content. It’s because things in this world cannot satisfy. So what can satisfy us and bring us happiness? The only thing that can bring true happiness is a close relationship with God.

If we took the countless hours that we spent seeking happiness in this world and focused that time on God, what would happen? If we spent that time in prayer, reading God’s word, and living for God, would we be happier in life? We absolutely would. Not because we would have achieved anything this world considers to bring happiness. But because we have a close relationship with God, who can bring true happiness.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
