Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. — Matthew 6:19-21

It was his prized possession. It was his dream car, one that he had worked hard to obtain. He spent countless hours saving, and working, all with the goal of obtaining that dream car. But in a quick moment, it was gone! Taken from him after someone had crossed the line and hit him head-on.

I’ll never forget talking with this man as we went toward the hospital. His car was gone, his dreams with it in a pile of twisted metal. It was a miracle he was alive. I couldn’t tell you how many times I had seen someone who was killed in this type of accident.

As we drove toward the hospital, he told me all about the car. He shared all the work that was done, with painstaking details, and was emotional about what he had lost. This car was his treasure! Aside from the temporary injuries, his heart was broken.

Nothing in this life is permanent. We put so much effort into our things and possessions of this world that we often overlook this basic concept that Jesus taught. Our focus shouldn’t be on the things of this world. Instead, it should be on laying up treasure in Heaven.

Your favorite car, handbag, outfit, piece of furniture, tech device, or any of thousands of other things will not be in Heaven. It’s far more important that we make sure our friends, family, and those around us will be there. Rather than focusing on our treasure here, we should make sure to share Jesus! Knowing Christ as Savior is the greatest treasure of all. Share Jesus with someone today!

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and helping non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
