Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. — Psalm 16:9

Occasionally, I will sit down and watch television with my son. One day, we were watching TV, and a string of security commercials came across. The commercials showed what appeared to be large security guards standing over the entryway into a home. When the intruder tried to enter, they secured the home.

If I recall correctly, the intruder tried to enter the home multiple ways. Each time, they were stopped by the security people at the door. The company shared its message to promote purchasing their security. The idea was that they were always on guard and protecting your home and valuables.

It is true that a home security system can provide some peace of mind. But they are not perfect. It is impossible for a security system to provide complete protection for you and your home. Why? Because those security guards aren’t there. It’s simply an electronic device that provides noise and monitoring for potential access in certain ways into your home.

I’m so thankful that the security provided for us by God is not that way. David had just shared in verse 8 that God was by his side. He continues here and says that his soul shall rest in hope. David was resting in the security of knowing that God was always by his side. He wasn’t relying on an electronic device, remote monitoring, or even security guards. David was relying on Almighty God!

Because it was God providing the security, David was able to rest completely. There is nothing we will face in life that can overpower our God. Maybe you face circumstances or uncertainties right now. Perhaps it has you restless and nervous. Take a moment and remember who is in control. God knows exactly what you are going through. Rest in God’s security, knowing that He is by your side!

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide.
