Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? — Matthew 6:26

I am not quite sure if I have ever witnessed a time in my life when people worry as much as they do today. People are concerned about the price of items at the store. They are concerned about the availability of food and water. I think there is something to be said for being prepared. Being worried is totally different.

When you worry over things in this life, it consumes you. You end up more focused on the things that you worry over than you are focused on the things that matter. It wears on you physically and mentally and brings you to a state where you are not only consumed, but exhausted with worry.

Jesus was teaching here in Matthew and sharing that the people listening should not be worried over things in life. He shared the example of the birds in the air. Those birds are not working to harvest and store food in order to survive. They are simply focused on getting through today. Why? Because our Heavenly Father takes care of them.

Jesus goes on to tell the people that if God takes care of the birds of the air, do we not think that He will take care of us? The birds are so important to God that He makes sure to take care of them so they do not go without. Yet, we struggle to have faith that God is willing to take care of us in things that we face.

God is a God of providence, meaning that He provides for His children. Even though we may not always see it, God has His hand on every aspect of our lives. Nothing that happens takes Him by surprise. There is no food shortage, water shortage, or crisis in your life that His providence is not able to overcome! You can rest assured and take promise in the providence of God.
