Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. — 1 Peter 5:7

I absolutely love the holiday season from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Thanksgiving gives us a time of reflection and Christmas, for a Christian, is an exciting time of celebration for the wonderful gift that we were given in a Savior. But I have to be honest, as excited as I am at Christmas, I also find myself heartbroken many times.

It seems that every year before Christmas I find myself hearing some type of horrible news or something horrible happens that makes my heartache for others. It could be someone that lost a job, lost a family member, lost their home, etc. We all can relate to this given the recent deadly tornadoes across several states in the US. For those that lost family and friends, my heart goes out to them.

In some of the most challenging times of my life, I seem to always go back to the words of 1 Peter 5:7. I will never forget how I heard one person say it. You could essentially rewrite this verse to say “cast all of your cares upon God, because he wants to care for you.” That really resonated with me. He doesn’t want me to just share part of my cares or part of my heartaches. He wants me to fully and completely cast them all onto Him. It is the concept that we are fully and completely stretched out and being supported by God.

Why would He do this? Why would the one who holds all the world in place have any concern for my heartaches, frustrations, cares, concerns, etc.? It is because He truly cares for me. No matter how big or how small the concern, He is there and wants you to completely trust Him with it.

You may not be struggling this holiday season, but at some point in your life, you will struggle. You may know someone who is struggling and needs to be reminded that they can fully and completely cast their care on Him. Because He truly cares for us.
