Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. — 2 Corinthians 5:20

I’ll never forget the times when I was growing up and I was leaving my parent’s house to go somewhere. They wanted to know who I was going with, where we were going, and what we were doing. At the time, it was frustrating but as a parent now, I certainly understand the reasoning. No matter what I answered to the questions I was asked, there were four words that my dad always ended the conversation with. “Remember who you are.”

He said that because I was a representative of our family. Anywhere I went, I carried our last name and any of the actions that I took part of were a direct reflection of myself and my family. He also said that because I was an ambassador for Christ and anything I did was a reflection of Him.

In 2 Corinthians, we are reminded that we are ambassadors, or messengers, for Christ. Everywhere we go and everything we do is a direct representation of our relationship with God. What you say, how you act, where you go, the things you do, even the people you associate with are a reflection of you and in turn Christ.

Later in the verse, it says “be ye reconciled to God.” The concept here is that in everything we do, we should do it as if Christ is present and is urging the action. Christ was always focused on His mission in leading others to faith. In following His lead, that should be the focus of everything we do.

So as you go about your day and you are representing Christ, where do you lead others? What kind of message do you send about Him to those who may not have a relationship with Him? We should want other to see Christ in us so that they may want to know Christ themselves.
