Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. — Psalm 150:6

Verse 6 of Psalm 150 wraps up a psalm that focuses on one single thing: praise. It’s as if the psalmist is so thrilled with the idea of praise that he cannot think of anything else. As you read through the psalm, it becomes easier to understand why.

The psalmist starts off by saying how important it is to praise God in His sanctuary. If you study the text, it most likely is referring to the temple, or what would be called the house of God. The writer says that we should praise God in His house but then continues on by telling us why and how we should praise.

We should praise Him for His mighty acts and for His excellent greatness. The writer continues by saying we should praise God with music. The writer names multiple musical instruments and dancing as ways to praise God. We should praise Him with music, praise Him with our actions, and make a mighty noise so that anyone nearby can hear us praising God.

As the psalmist wraps up in verse 6, the idea is that because God is so mighty and so excellent, we should praise Him with our everything! Not one single thing is left out of the idea of praising God.

That includes you and me! When was the last time we truly praised God as he deserves? In church, at home, at work, or in the middle of the night, God is worthy of our praise.
