And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. — 1 Kings 17:7
As I reached my hand into the bottom of the bag, I knew that there was a chance I was out. I had been scraping the bottom of the bag for a few days, but today felt like it might be the bottom of the bag. Sure enough, the bag was empty.
I went to the pantry and tried to see if I had more. There was none to be found. I looked through the cabinets, but nothing was there. I had not only emptied the bag, but I was completely out!
In that moment, I was not quite sure what to do. I needed this item to finish what I was making, but there was none in the house. As I thought through my options, I couldn’t help but reflect on this verse in scripture.
There are moments in our lives when the brook dries up. No, it may not be simply running out of a household supply. Perhaps you are in a moment of closeness with God, but something changes and you suddenly feel far apart. Maybe things are going well in life, but suddenly, things change and now you are in the middle of a valley.
Your brook can dry up, even when you are in the middle of God’s will. Circumstances can change, but God never does! Even when your brook dries up, He is faithful and can help guide you through. When your brook dries up, don’t panic! God has a plan and you just need to trust Him! Call on Him and let Him guide you. He will show you the next step for your journey.
