The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones. — Ezekiel 37:1
When I used to travel for work, I remember there were times I ended up places that I did not particularly care for. Sometimes, I took a wrong turn. There are some times that I simply did not know the area. In one instance, my flight was cancelled and I was forced to stay in a very bad hotel in a very unsafe part of town.
The truth is, that there are times in life where you end up in places you don’t necessarily want to be. We may not necessarily go looking for those places on our own. The same goes for our spiritual lives as well. Sometimes, we find ourselves in places spiritually that we really didn’t want to be. Times where we may feel we aren’t as close to God as we want to be. Times we seems to be struggling to hear from God as we desire.
Ezekiel didn’t necessarily go seeking to be taken to a valley that was full of bones. Valleys are typically places that we talk about wanting to avoid spiritually. They are places of difficulty. For Ezekiel, he described this as more than a valley. He says the valley was full of bones.
At times, we find ourselves in a valley spiritually we where we didn’t want to be. We weren’t looking for a challenge or difficulty, yet we found ourselves in one. It can be easy to become discouraged, but don’t!
Continue to look to God and listen for God. It is in those times that God can bring something new. He can bring life into the midst of a valley of bones. Don’t grow frustrated that you find yourself in the valley. Be encouraged because it means that God has something more in store for you.
