And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. — Matthew 7:25
Not long ago, I was reading the story of the famous leaning tower of Pisa. The tower is well known for it’s lean. During construction, it started to lean due to the condition of the foundation. It took many years to build, and has undergone many modifications to help strengthen the building and attempt to reduce the lean.
In 1990, the tower was closed to visitors, and a nearly 11-year project took place where they addressed the lean. The tower’s lean was ultimately reduced by 19″, with engineers saying they believe it will stabilize the building for decades. But it isn’t certain. The foundation continues to be on soft ground that could shift.
The foundation is extremely important to any building. Without a solid foundation, the building is subject to failure. It could lean, it could cause cracks to form, and it could ultimately collapse. The same is true of the Christian life. If our lives are not founded on a solid foundation, we are at risk for collapse.
We cannot rely on the things of this world to give us a solid spiritual foundation. You can do everything right by this world’s standards and still find yourself without a solid foundation. The only safe and secure foundation is one that is founded on Jesus Christ.
In Him, we can find safety and security from the storms of life. In Him, we can find rest and peace amid the turmoil. There are times you may feel that your world is rocky. Perhaps you feel like the walls are caving in. But if you are founded on Jesus Christ, your foundation is solid! He is not going to collapse, no matter what the challenge may be!
