Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. — Psalm 16:9
Recently, I was speaking with someone who shared with me that they were struggling with rest. There were many aspects of their life that they struggled with. Family was giving some challenges. Sickness had been present in their life. They had worry in their heart about their financial condition and even the future of many things in life.
As they shared these many thoughts, they made a statement that stuck with me. They said, “I know that I shouldn’t be worried about what is going on because God is in control. But I still worry because I don’t know all the answers or details.” It can certainly be challenging when we don’t know all the details of the circumstances and situations that we face in life.
In this Psalm, David shares a thought that any Christian must consider in these moments of life. In verse 8, he shares that he has placed his focus on God, knowing that God is at his right hand. In other words, David realized that God was present, willing, and available no matter what he faced in life.
He continued in this verse, saying it gave him gladness. Knowing these things caused him to rejoice in his heart. But he ends that he found rest in this hope. David knew that while he may not always understand or know, he had confidence in God. Confidence that allowed him to rest from all his concerns.
For any Christian, we too have this hope. God is ever-present, willing, and able to help us in the circumstances that we face in life. While it can be difficult, we should take comfort and rest in that hope. Don’t give up your hope amid the challenges of life. Instead, take comfort in the one who will never leave you nor forsake you!
