For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. — 2 Corinthians 5:1

Not long ago, I got stuck in traffic on my way home. Like most people, I use an app on my phone that helps me find my way. The app rerouted me around the traffic, through some areas that I was not familiar with. On the drive, I saw some of the biggest houses I can recall seeing in quite some time.

Along the drive, there were countless neighborhoods with large homes. Some of these homes had carefully manicured lawns. There were lots of beautiful flowers, some had gates leading into their driveway. Some of the neighborhoods were smaller homes, but they were just as immaculate. It was clearly evident that they loved their homes.

While there is nothing wrong with having a well-kept home in this life, we must remember things in this world are temporary. Things can easily destroy the things we have in this life. Even if it does last the extent of our lives, it will not exist throughout eternity.

As we go through our lives, we must remember that there is more to life than this world. Everything here is temporary and could all be gone in the blink of an eye. But what we have in God is eternal. As the verse says, it’s a building of God, not made with human hands. It’s eternal!

If everything you had in this world were taken away today, would you have anything left that matters to you? Too many people are focused on the possessions they have in this world. Our focus should not be on all the things of this world. Instead, our focus should be on eternal things.
