Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? — John 16:31
It is not uncommon that we all think we are strong in our faith. We all want to believe that we have the ability to stand no matter the storm or test that may come into our lives. It is in those moments that our faith is tested beyond measure. Those moments try us and shape us in ways that we can typically not imagine.
On many occasions in life, I can recall hearing people describe the moments when their world crumbled. I recall working as a paramedic and talking with parents who had just lost their child. On many different occasions, tragedy struck a family and caused them to feel as though their world was crumbling.
In this passage, Jesus was trying to help the disciples understand what they were about to experience. Soon, they would feel as though their world was crumbling. At the moment, they felt strong and as though they could overcome anything in this world with their faith. But that was about to change.
When your world crumbles, you have choices. Many people will say that it is a great time to give up on your faith. Your mind might cause you to start thinking that God does not care or does not love you. But that isn’t the case at all. It is in those moments that you face the question that Jesus shares above. Do you believe now?
Do you feel like your world is crumbling? Or maybe you feel as though you are strong and can conquer anything the world has. It could be that your world is about to crumble. In those moments of life, God has not forgotten you, and He still loves you.
