In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? — Psalm 11:1
Several years ago, I was involved in a pretty significant car accident. I was traveling on my way to work when a car turned in front of me. Traveling at the speed I was traveling, I had no time to respond! My car hit her vehicle almost head-on as she turned in front of me, giving me one of the most shocking experiences in my life.
After a few minutes, the initial shock wore off. There was no doubt I was hurting, it was about all I could do to get out of the car and start looking at the damage. The front of my car was destroyed. The windshield was cracked and the airbags had all deployed. The violent crash had altered my plans that morning and for some time to come.
Several days later, I drove to retrieve my items from the vehicle. As I climbed into the car, I couldn’t help but remember the significant impact and how I felt that morning after the crash. But here I was, several days later, having been protected by the grace of God.
David knew his protection was in God. David compares this to a bird being told to seek protection in the mountain. Sometimes, we never know that we need protection. That is why our trust must be in God. The one who can protect us, even when we don’t know that we need protection.
Just because we trust in God for protection doesn’t mean we will still not be impacted by things going on around us. The storms may rage and the winds blow. The enemy may attack us and attempt to tear us down. But we are safe and secure in God!
