No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. — Matthew 6:24
The choice was difficult. My son was looking at two different items, and I told him that he could choose one. I remember saying the words, “Which one will it be?” Like most kids, he wanted them both. He tried everything that he could to convince me to get both of the items. He even promised that he would be good!
Soon, he realized that I was certain in my decision. He must pick one or the other. I watched as he weighed his decision, selecting the one that he believed would make him happier. As we walked around, I waited to see if he regretted his decision, but what happened caught my attention.
As we walked around, he didn’t seem to have any regret. He never mentioned the other item again. He just focused on the one that he chose. He began to tell me how he was going to use it and all that he planned to do with it.
If only we could do the same as Christians. So many times, we face decisions in life where we must choose between God and the things of this world. We know that choosing to follow God is the right decision, but we often think about the what-if scenario. Instead, our decision should be to follow God without looking back.
The Bible is clear we cannot have it both ways. We are either serving God, or we are following after sin and the things of this world. We face these decisions and must decide which one will it be and often question with “what-if” questions.
If you made the decision to serve God, don’t look back. You can’t serve God the way you need to by looking back and questioning your decision. Following God is the right decision, no matter what this world might lead you to believe. Trust Him fully, and follow Him with no regret.
