Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. — 2 Thessalonians 2:15

Not long ago, I was texting with a friend of mine who shared a video with me. We were talking about the state of Florida and that hurricane season was just beginning. He made a joke that perhaps there would be an opportunity for me to meet a popular meteorologist in Florida who loves hurricane season.

As he continued to talk, he began to talk about other various things involving hurricanes. Soon, I had a video that came through where a meteorologist was standing in the middle of an intense storm, with the wind blowing all around him. He was holding on to a sign, just trying to stay on his feet.

Life can sometimes feel that way. There are times in our spiritual lives when we face storms, and the winds seem to blow so hard that it is all we can do to stand. It feels as though we might need to grab onto anything we can just to remain standing.

In this verse, Paul is not specifically referring to storms but about every day life. In other words, in the good times and in the bad times. No matter what you are facing, Paul describes standing fast, holding on to the traditions. There was no reason to give up and sit down because of God and all He had done in the past. All the stories and all the experiences gave purpose to stand up and keep going.

Maybe you feel like giving up today. Perhaps you feel like it is time to just sit down and be done. Instead, consider the words of Paul here. Remember the times God has intervened. Remember the moments He spoke and moved in your life in the past. You have a reason to continue on. Don’t give up and sit down. Stand firm and stand strong!
