Now or later

As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. — John 18:6

My wife and I had made plans for the weekend. We knew there were a lot of errands to run and many places to drive. The only problem was that the number of errands and the amount of housework were battling for priority. We had so many things to do, but it was going to be a challenge to get them all done.

We had both been doing the various things we needed to do when she came up to me and mentioned one thing that she had to go do. Her question was simple, “Do you want to do it now or later?” Either way, it was going to happen, but we had the opportunity to do it now versus later. Truthfully, doing it now was going to be much easier.

In these verses, I cannot help but think of the same thing. Judas and the group of people with him had come to find Jesus. When Jesus asked who they were looking for, He responded to them, and they fell backward and to the ground. They had a choice that day, but they made the wrong one.

Every person who ever lives will make a choice. They will bow down and declare Jesus as Lord now or later. We have all been given the opportunity to choose. Some choose now, accepting Him as Savior. Instead of bowing their knee, Judas and these people fell. It would have been easier to bow.

Have you accepted Jesus as Savior? Have you declared Him as Lord of your life? Right now, you have the opportunity to willingly accept Him. But one day, you won’t be given that choice again. You will acknowledge Him as Lord, but will not be able to accept Him as Savior. Will you accept Him before it is too late?

Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
