I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all. — Job 16:2

Many people in this world will share their opinions. Give any politician 5 minutes in front of a camera or microphone and you will quickly hear about their opinion. There are many business leaders, celebrities, and others who are quick to share their opinions. Each of them believes that they know what is best for you and your family. They want to encourage you to live their way, do their things, or to change your mind on how you believe.

Many churches are filled with people who prefer to share their own opinions rather than what God’s word says. There are far too many churches that are quick to share a popular opinion rather than the truth of God anymore. But what happens when it isn’t a leader such as this, but it is a friend?

Job certainly knew what that was like. He had sought out his friends to share their opinions with him. In the end, it led to Job saying they were miserable comforters. The advice wasn’t good, the opinions were unfounded and uncomforting. In other words, Job’s friends didn’t cut it! They weren’t up to the challenge.

There is nothing wrong with seeking good advice. Many friends can provide comfort and advice in times of need to help, but they are not a substitute for God. We can try to make sense of all that is happening around us, but true comfort and direction come from God!

Maybe you have relied on your friends, but you find yourself like Job. You find yourself in a situation where your friends don’t cut it. They simply aren’t giving good advice or helping comfort you. Or perhaps they don’t know what to say. Go to God! He’s the one that is closer than a brother. He cares for you, loves you, and wants to help you.

Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue its work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
