Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? — John 3:9

I sat and looked at the instructions, and my mind was blown. We had just purchased two desks, and it was my job to put them together. I had hundreds of pieces that sat in front of me. Each one had a sticker corresponding to the instructions and location they were to be used. But there was just one problem: the instructions made no sense!

After putting together many different items in the past, I had thought the desk would be easy. I started putting the pieces together, but the further I went, the more of a mess I seemed to make. Soon, I was so frustrated with trying to put the desks together that I decided to do what I often do when I need help. I went to look for a video online.

Soon, I saw a video that showed me exactly how to put the desk together. Someone who was obviously an expert had made sense of the instructions. They had posted the video online to guide others through the process. After watching the video, I couldn’t help but laugh. I had tried to make things more difficult in my own reasoning.

Across the world, people often try to do the same thing with things of God. They try to reason through things in their own mind, attempting to make salvation and faith actions that require someone of advanced learning to understand. We see that here with Nicodemus even in Jesus’ day.

It can leave others thinking, “How easy can it be?” But God didn’t design faith to be something so difficult to understand. He designed salvation and faith to be something even a child can understand. But in our minds, we expect it to be something more difficult.

Instead of trying to make it more difficult, perhaps we should try to look at it more simply. Instead of making it something that requires immense reasoning, maybe we should consider how simple God really designed it.

Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
