And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. — Luke 17:15-16
Many times, going into the store with my son has been an adventure. There are many times that we may enter a store, and he has no desire to be there. He will not look at anything or ask for anything. He simply wants to go home. Other times, he will ask for nearly everything that is on the shelves!
Like most parents, we will buy him something that he wants from time to time. Maybe it is a snack or a toy, but we certainly don’t give him everything that he asks for. But there’s one thing that I always wait for. When I give him what he wants, will he say thank you.
These two simple words have a powerful meaning. They show our appreciation for what was done. In this instance, it shows me that he truly appreciated what he received. But there are many times he may not say thank you. Isn’t that how we are as Christians?
We often ask so much of God. So many times, our days are filled with prayers, asking God for healing, forgiveness, mercy, grace, and a variety of other things. So many times, God gives us exactly what we ask for, but do we thank Him? Not a generic thank you for answering prayers, but rather a specific thank you.
As you go about your day, think about all the things that God does for you and provides for you. Instead of just taking them for granted, take an opportunity to be specific in your thanks to God. He does so much more for us than any of us deserve.
