To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? — Deuteronomy 10:13

One of the things I hated the most when I was growing up was when my parents gave me instruction that I did not like, but said it was for my good. I couldn’t understand how keeping me from doing something I saw as fun or exciting would be for my own good. But now, as a parent, I certainly see what they are saying.

Had they let me make many of the stupid decisions that I wanted to make, I would certainly be much worse off. It would have created habits in my life that I may have struggled with. Even something as simple as eating junk food or candy late at night would have been a bad decision. While I didn’t always agree with them, it was for my good.

Now, I’m the one telling my son as I make decisions that they are for his good. He doesn’t always like them, either. This is exactly how we are many times with our Heavenly Father. We know what God wants us to do and how he wants us to live, yet we don’t because we don’t like it.

God has given us His word to guide our lives. Yet, we often overlook the very basic things it tells us are good for us. Simple things like reading the Bible and talking to God in prayer are overlooked for convenience. But they are for our good!

As you examine your life, what are you ignoring that is for your good? Have you ignored the directions of God? Perhaps the instruction found in His word? Every moment we refuse to listen is a moment lost to live for God. When temptations come to let those things slide, remember it is for your good!

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
