Not long ago, my son wanted pizza. We headed off to one of our favorite local pizza spots and placed our order. They handed us our cups, and we headed toward the drink machines. Soon, we found our table and sat down, but we noticed a problem after a few minutes. There was water all over our table.
We didn’t notice water when we first sat down, so we wiped it up and began looking for the problem. As we searched, we noticed that the water continued to grow, and it appeared to be coming from the cup of water my son had. Sure enough, the cup was leaking very slowly. We had to get a new cup because that one couldn’t be used.
On the outside, it appeared to be a great cup. It appeared to be made well, without any blemishes. But on the inside, the seam was not sealed, and it could not hold the water inside. So we had to get a cup that would be able to hold the water.
In this verse of Acts, we read how God had a purpose for Saul. Saul, who would become Paul, was a chosen vessel. He was the one who would be filled, carrying the word of God and helping spread it across the world. But that meant he had to be a willing vessel to carry what God wanted him to carry.
God has a purpose for each of us. We are all a vessel with purpose. But before we can fulfill our purpose, we must make sure that our vessel is prepared. Our hearts must be sealed in salvation and filled with the word of God. Our minds must be consumed with prayer and the thoughts of God. Is your vessel prepared to fulfill your purpose?
