Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. — 2 Corinthians 1:22
Several years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the Smithsonian Museum of American History. I absolutely love history and I wanted to visit and see some of the most interesting artifacts that I had read about. There were dozens of things that were there which simply amazed me. From pieces of paper to trains, the exhibits varied in size and importance.
One that caught my attention was the display of the large American flag that was flown at the Battle of Baltimore in September of 1814. The flag was raised over Fort McHenry to signify victory. Not only that, but the sight of that flag seems to be what inspired Francis Scott Key. He wrote The Star Spangled Banner because of these events.
As I stood and looked at the flag, I remember one of the curators saying, “This is not a replica. This flag is authentic! It is in a climate-controlled storage chamber to help protect it forever.” It was an exciting moment to see such an amazing piece of authentic American History from so many years ago. A flag that continues to inspire people even to this day.
The thoughts that go through my mind when I read the word “sealed” in this verse are similar. The idea of being sealed is to be authentic, confirmed, and genuine. The idea is that whatever has been sealed is protected forever. Isn’t that an amazing thought?
We are sealed by the blood of Jesus Christ! There is nothing that can change that. We are genuinely His. The blood applied to our hearts was authentic! Best of all, we are sealed forever! The blood that was shed some 2,000 years ago continues to change lives and seal hearts even today!
If you have accepted Jesus Christ, rejoice today because you are sealed. The blood was authentic and changed your life forever. If you have never accepted Jesus, it isn’t too late. You can give your heart to Him and be forgiven of your sins today!
Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
