And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive. — Acts 27:15

There are many times in life we find ourselves facing circumstances beyond our control. We often hear them referred to as the storms of life. These circumstances are often difficult to navigate. We often find ourselves looking for solutions. Then, there are other times when we find ourselves simply looking for a way out. It is in those very moments that we may find ourselves simply letting go.

That’s what the Apostle Paul describes here in this verse. The storm had become so fierce that they had tried everything they knew to try. The wind was against them, no doubt the rain pouring down. It was so intense that they did what is so tempting to do. They simply let go. They let the wind drive the ship wherever it wanted.

Fortunately for the people on the ship that day, they found refuge from the storm near an island. Perhaps the island helped break the wind to help them regain control of the situation. But what you find is that the ship was an absolute mess, needing much worse by the time they found relief.

The storms of life were never meant to come into your life in order to control you. Sure, the storms have an effect on your life, but they should never control or consume you. Why? Because we don’t have to let go, we simply have to let God.

This doesn’t mean that the storm will cease. The storm may rage on for some time. But when we turn it over to God, letting Him navigate our lives, He will guide us safely through the storm. When we let God have it, we won’t be left fixing a mess. Instead, we will be left remembering how amazing the grace of God is once again and how He has never once failed us.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
