And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. — Jonah 3:4

Not long ago, I was sound asleep in bed. I am not always the soundest sleeper. Many times I wake up in the middle of the night with things on my mind. I think about things I need to do, perhaps I think about verses of scripture or a book I am reading and a thought that it shared. That wasn’t the case this specific night.

But like most other days, I reached a dreaded point of the day where the alarm started to go off. Because of my deep sleep, it took me a moment to get my composure and turn the alarm off. While we are certainly thankful for some alarms in our lives, like fire alarms, many of them can be frustrating. Especially if you are sound asleep!

Each alarm has a purpose and plan. Some protect us from smoke and fire. Others protect us from intruders in our homes or cars. Of course, there’s always that frustrating morning alarm that it is time to get up and go to work or school.

No matter what alarm comes into our life, it prompts action. That was certainly the case with the alarm that God sent by Jonah to the people of Nineveh. They needed to act, repent of their sin, and turn back to God.

God sends warnings into our lives to help us. Sometimes those warnings are to keep us out of danger. Other times they are to help us find our way. Each time, they are given for a specific purpose that requires action.

Has God given you a warning in your life? Maybe God has been giving you a wake-up alarm for you to stop doing something or change your way as He did these people. That’s not just another annoying wake-up alarm. If He is sending you a warning, be thankful. It means God is giving you a chance to listen before it’s too late. Don’t hit the snooze button on God’s alarm. Instead, listen to His voice and follow Him.

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
