Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. — Hebrews 10:22
Over the years, I have witnessed a lot of things being done half-hearted. Sometimes, those were things that other people may have been doing. For example, maybe a coworker was asked to do something, but really wasn’t interested. Instead of giving it their all, they only gave it a half-hearted attempt.
At other times, it was me who was guilty of being half-hearted. There were times I have not given things my all. Maybe I wasn’t interested. Maybe it was something that I had to do which was not very fun. No matter the circumstance, we can all think back on times in our lives where we were probably half-hearted.
But what about in our relationship with God? The writer here seems to indicate that there is a need for us to draw near to God with a true heart in full assurance of faith. The true heart statement refers to the sincerity of the heart. But what about the full assurance of faith?
To have full assurance of faith means that we have unwavering faith in God. It means that we have full confidence in Him, and that there is no room for doubt. Can we say that is the case for our relationship with God? Or is our relationship half-hearted?
In order to draw as near to God as possible, it means that we can’t be half-hearted. Our hearts should be sincere, full of faith in the capabilities of our God. Going through life as a half-hearted Christian robs us of our ability to have the close relationship that God desires. Don’t be a half-hearted Christian, give your all to God!
