Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. — Proverbs 31:30

Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen many advertisements that talk about what a mother really needs. Jewelry stores were advertising necklaces. They were gorgeous pieces of jewelry with many different stones. Clothing stores were advertising their latest clothes. Chocolate candy makers, hotels, restaurants, you name it. They all claim that they have what Mom really needs.

Each of them was pushing their latest and greatest thing. While they all were amazing, beautiful, or tasty, they all had one thing in common. Everything that was offered was something that was temporary. It was a short-lived experience, something that would quickly fade into memory and be gone forever.

I am certainly not suggesting that it is a bad thing to spoil a mom on Mother’s Day. More than just one day a year, we should celebrate moms and the challenging job they have of being a mother. But each mom out there needs more than just a temporary gift or pleasure this world can provide.

This Proverb talks a lot about women, but here it specifically talks about a woman that fears the Lord. Why is that important? Because in those difficult tasks of being a mom, it means that her heart and ambitions are set on serving and honoring God. She realized God is the most important thing, much more important than anything this world provides.

There’s nothing wrong with spoiling mom on Mother’s Day. But if you have a God-fearing mother, thank God. If you have a God-fearing wife that is a mother to your children, thank God. That’s the type of mother our world needs!

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
