And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things. — Mark 6:34

It is always amazing to me to hear the stories of how some businesses and organizations were formed. A great example is that of the Salvation Army. Hearing how William Booth was so concerned over those suffering around London who were not interested in church. He was moved and started reaching out in an effort to reach those people for Christ.

The organization has changed a lot over the years. What started as a small mission is now worldwide. They focus on a lot of other initiatives aside from the gospel now, but they still provide spiritual help to those who desire it. The point is that it took the motivation of one person to establish a worldwide organization that touches millions each year.

In Mark 6:34, Mark writes how Jesus was moved with compassion towards the people that were around that day. He saw them as sheep needing a shepherd. So He was moved and stepped in to teach them and lead them. The key words in the KJV quoted above is “was moved.”

Each day we go about our lives with countless people around us. People that are sick, hurting, lost, and in a wide variety of other situations. Is there anything about this that causes us to be moved? Do we find ourselves wanting to share the gospel or help those in need?

Jesus gave us a great example of being moved to act. He was touched by the people that day and acted. God wants us to be ready to serve at a moment’s notice. God is still touching hearts to act in our day. The question is what is moving you?
