Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. — Romans 8:26

There are many times throughout my life where someone has come up to me and shared that they had been praying for me. I had no idea that they were praying and perhaps had no idea why God would impress it on their heart to pray for me. Yet, in their faithfulness, they chose to take a few moments out of their day and pray for me.

There are other times in my life where I certainly needed prayer. I have said the words, “would you pray for me” to people on several occasions. Some were willing to pray at that very moment, others shared that they would pray for me in their personal time. The point is, there are many times that I don’t know what is being said or who may be praying for me.

Romans 8:26 is a clear reminder, however, that we can be assured of one person who is praying for us. Paul writes that the Holy Spirit makes intercession, or prays, on our behalf. More than just simply praying for us, he continues that the Holy Spirit is so in tune with our heart that the prayers are made even when we don’t know what to say.

In the times that you cannot find the words to express how you feel, the Holy Spirit knows and is praying for you. In the times that you don’t know how to pray or what to ask for, the Holy Spirit knows and is praying for you. Each and every day, the Holy Spirit approaches the throne of God on your behalf, praying for you.

While we may never know those around us who are praying for us, we can rest assured that we have one interceding on our behalf! In any situation and in any circumstance, the Holy Spirit is praying for you.
