And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. — Galatians 4:6-7
After writing about being accepted in yesterday’s devotional, I couldn’t help but continue with the next two verses in Galatians. Paul shared so many great thoughts in this letter. It’s an amazing thought to be accepted by God, as was mentioned yesterday, but what does that mean?
I go back to the example of my son who we adopted from China. We fully accepted him and adopted him into our family. In China, he was an orphan. While he had a family, they realized they could not care for him and he was given to the orphanage. He was given a Chinese name as he had no name. The name was relative to his town, not his family.
When we adopted him, we were told we should give him a name. We gave it much prayer and consideration, but one thing that really stuck out to me was that his last name was going to be that of our family. Just as much as I am a member of our family by birth, he would be a member of our family too!
Acceptance by God is much more than simple acceptance. Paul shared in the writing that there are benefits that come along with the adoption into the family of God. No more are we strangers, we are family! A family member that has become an heir to God.
You are a child of God and entitled to all of the benefits of being part of His family! You have the God of creation on your side. When the world gets you down, remember that the God who has overcome the world is your Father. When you find yourself in need, remember your Father is the great I AM! Today, rejoice not just in being accepted by God, but in being part of God’s family and in all of its benefits.
