And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. — John 1:16
Have you ever met one of those people in life who are planners? Essentially every day of the week they have a plan for what they are going to do and what they are going to accomplish. Some people are just excellent at the task of planning. For me, it seems that every time I plan something, my plans end up being broken or changing.
There is usually a simple explanation for this. No matter how hard I want to plan out my day, there are things that happen that change my plans. Perhaps I planned to go to one store, but my wife needed a different store.
Other times I have experienced that I had one way something should go in my mind, but another person involved had a different idea. I had to change my plans.
We can plan our days minute by minute, but we never know what each day will hold. Accidents happen. Sickness happens. There are times that flat tires or other car troubles happen. Nothing in our world is guaranteed day to day no matter how much we plan.
In this verse in John, we are reminded that we have all received of the fulness of God and grace for grace. The term grace for grace fascinates me here. The idea is that this is a continuous supply of grace, essentially new grace, each and every time it is needed from a loving and caring God.
Even though I do not know what the rest of today or tomorrow may hold, He does! Not only does He know, but He already has the grace that I will need to make it through the day arranged. After that day is over, He already has the grace I will need the following day lined up!
Today may bring something your way that you were not planning for but God already has the grace that you will need ready to help you through it. Tomorrow could be a day that forever changes your life, but God is ready and has the grace you will need to make it through. He has new grace for every situation and every circumstance. Praise God for a loving God who has grace for every need!
