How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? — Psalm 13:1

It was not so long ago that I was waiting for a friend to call me back. I had called to talk about something and they asked if they could call me back in just a few moments. Those moments turned to hours, those hours to a couple of days. At that moment, it seemed like I had been forgotten. That was until the friend called me back.

At the time, the matter I was needing to talk to them about seemed extremely important. It was important enough to me that I picked up the phone looking to talk to them about it. It didn’t seem like the issue was as important to them after those few hours and days of waiting. But in the end, the friend held true and was a friend just like they had always been.

If we are honest, we have all felt this way in our spiritual lives at some point also. We are in the middle of a situation in our lives and we really need God to intervene and help us. Perhaps we cry out for help through prayer, but it seems that He is not listening. Perhaps, we may even find ourselves in the same situation as David asking how long God will forget us.

In the middle of a situation of life, it can be difficult to see around the things we may be facing. The circumstances may be so high and so wide that we are unable to see the other side. It is even possible that they weigh on our minds so heavily that we are unable to think about anything but the things we are facing. We may forget that God has helped us before and He will do it again!

Just a few verses later, David was reminded of this when he said, “But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.” While the circumstances may seem monumental, never forget that God has always been there. It may seem like you have been forgotten, but soon enough He will reveal Himself once again and you can join David in rejoicing in God’s mercy.
