Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. — 1 Peter 1:18 & 19
Around the world, there is a lot of talk about the value of things. We hear terms like inflation and we see the effects of events going on around the world. Gas prices are up, home prices are up, and some things are difficult to find on shelves at the store.
Even more than just some things we may buy, other things that we consider extremely valuable are on the rise as well. Things like gold and silver are rising and becoming more and more valuable. It is an interesting time in our world as the prices of things continue to rise and seemingly cost more than we ever considered.
As valuable as all of these things may be, none of them could provide redemption for the sins of the world. Scripture tells us that silver and gold, two of the most valuable things in our world, could not provide redemption for our sins.
The traditions of fathers could not provide redemption from sin either. No matter what type of works we could have done on our own, none would have provided redemption from our sin. We were in a situation without hope for permanent redemption of sin.
That was until the blood of Jesus was shed on the cross. It was the only possible solution to provide redemption for our sin. So while we look around at all the valuable things around us, remember that nothing is as valuable as the blood of Jesus that was shed for your sins. It is more valuable than anything in this world!
