And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. — Isaiah 37:14

No doubt the letter that Hezekiah received here in these verses was troubling. He was just told that an army was coming and they had one objective in mind: war. It was something that he knew would be devastating to his people and he knew that there was only one solution.

So he took the letter to the house of the Lord and the verse says he “spread it before the Lord.” He put all of his cares, all of the things troubling him out before God that day. He prayed earnestly for God’s intervention and deliverance from the situation.

There are times in our lives that we all receive difficult news. It could be that you learn of a medical issue. Perhaps it’s devastating news involving a family member or friend. It could be financial or related to your work. Bad news happens and when we receive that bad news, what we do with it can make all the difference.

It is tempting to run to others and complain when we receive bad news. It can be tempting to go seek the advice of other people and ask for their help to navigate the situation. Instead, we should follow the example of Hezekiah. We should take our problem straight to God and put all of our troubles before Him.

God wants to hear from you about all the cares that you face, no matter how big or how small. He will hear the prayers that you pray and He will help you through the situations that you face. So whether you are facing troubles today or when you face troubles in the future, remember that God is our help and our strength. Put all your troubles before God.
