And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. – Matthew 2:11
The birth of Christ and the story of the wise men coming to visit is a very familiar one. We read it at Christmas and we see it acted out in plays. There’s something about this story that is more applicable than just at Christmas time.
We always think of the wise men bringing their gifts to a baby. But that baby was more than just a baby, He was the Son of God! They were bringing their gifts to the Son of God, giving to Him what they had.
God has truly blessed us in life, but what have we given back to Him? It’s more than just giving a tithe or giving to missions. Those are important and we should do those things. But are we giving him other things, such as our talents, time, and energy?
The wise men gave their energy to seek God and gave their time to worship Him and share gifts. Are we giving of all that we have to God? He wants more than just your money, He wants you to give of everything you have.
