But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. — Luke 2:19
The day after Christmas always sets off a frenzy. I remember years ago working in retail when I was in college, watching people rush to the stores to spend their money or make their returns. The kindness of the holidays is gone it seems.
It is amazing how quickly we can move on from the most wonderful time of the year as the song says. We move from a time of thinking about giving, to a moment of selfishness and forgetfulness. Forgetfulness about what the whole point of Christmas is about.
As I think about the events that happened in Bethlehem, I have always loved this verse. I can only imagine the many thoughts that went through the minds of Mary and Joseph. Strangers coming to visit, angels visiting, and the miraculous birth itself.
After all the things had happened, the account here in Luke records this verse that Mary kept these things and pondered them in her heart. The Savior had changed her life forever. What an amazing thought.
Each of us can say the same thing. Rather than quickly moving on from Christmas, we should keep in mind all the things that have changed in our lives due to the Savior. Instead of quickly moving to focus on other things in life, let us continue to ponder the Savior. He is something worth pondering!
