He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. — Psalm 23:2
Not long ago, I was standing in my office and watching traffic as it went by on the freeway. Car after car was passing by with many passing hurriedly. If you drove this stretch of freeway you would know how scary it can be. Everyone is in such a hurry!
Just beyond that freeway are two things that I enjoy. First, as I stare across the freeway I see an open field that is fenced with cows. Seeing those cows reminds me of the farms back in North Carolina and growing up around my grandfather’s farms.
The second thing I see the airport and I can watch the planes take off and land. While traveling may not be relaxing to some of the passengers on those flights, it is relaxing to me to watch those planes. I always love the perspective that being above the ground has.
As relaxing as those images are to me in my mind, nothing compares to the rest that I find in the Shepherd’s care. Amid all the chaos and craziness of the world, He provides green pastures of rest when I need it most. He leads me to the still waters when the storms are rocking my life.
What has your life in turmoil today? Do you find yourself in need of some peace and rest? Find that rest in the Shepherd’s care. If you ask Him, He can bring it to you no matter what you are facing. There’s nothing like the rest He can bring!
