From frustration to triumph

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. — Galatians 6:9

Recently, I was outside with my son. He had been wanting to learn to ride his bike for a long time. Given his hearing challenges, balance is not always the easiest thing for him. So he really struggled. He would try and try, but could never get it right.

So I did what anyone would do. I started trying to find a way to help him learn to ride his bike. Someone recommended a specific bicycle to try. I got him one, and we set out to try to learn. After the first time, he was improving, but he was still frustrated. He kept watching the other kids in our neighborhood riding their bikes and saying he wanted to ride his. I kept encouraging him.

On the second time out with the new bike, he started balancing. After some time of practice, he was soon riding with only a little help getting started. I saw it in his eyes as he went from frustration to triumph. Those frustrating days were over. Now, he was riding his bike just like he had wanted to do!

There are many times when life is frustrating. We can try over and over to do the right things, but it can often seem like we are stuck in constant failure. Many people in this world would love for you to believe that living for God and experiencing frustration is all there is.

But just as this verse reminds us, don’t let the frustration of this life cause you to be weary in doing the right thing. Continue living for God and following His word and His will. One day, that frustration will turn to triumph.
