Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob. — Psalm 114:7
Many years ago, I remember traveling to the West Coast for work. My initial flight landed in Oregon, on the east side of the mountains. In the distance, I could see the mountains and in just a few days, I had to cross them for another meeting. I had initially planned to fly across, but at the recommendation of those in the area, I decided to drive. They shared this was one of the few times of the year to enjoy it.
Initially, it didn’t seem like so challenging of a task. The drive was pleasant as I started up the mountain. But soon, the skies turned to gray. Snow started to fall and the wind started to blow as I made my way up the mountain and across the pass. I realized why they said this was one of the few times to enjoy it!
Once I made it to my destination, I looked back on that mountain with a new respect. Even with a great car, clear roads, and a good GPS, the mountain was still a challenge. But that’s not the case for God.
The psalmist writes here how the earth trembles at the presence of God. It recognizes the power of its Creator. As mighty as the mountains appear in our eyes, they are nothing for God. He holds power over them and all things!
Maybe the mountains that you see in life ahead of you seem too hard to climb. Perhaps the storms have been intense, where it feels as though you cannot survive. Remember that’s nothing for God. No matter how high the mountain or challenging the storm in your life, they are all subject to the authority of God.
